Q3) What i chaged about my trailer due to my audience feedback

My first draft of my trailer is very basic and i really had to work hard to make a relation between my trailer and the waterloo road trailer. i had alot of people commenting to me verbaly about how my choice of sound track(skrillex) w didnt fit with the editing of my trailer and also that my footage wasnt fitting with the sound track so through garage band i worked on the volume and also had a big cut down on the intro of the song so when the bass dropped it would be at the most intence part of the trailer . the way my footage was shown wasnt very good either because i filmed to sperete story lines takeing inspirtation from two trailers ( one neighboors one waterloo road) half way through my trailer the story line completly changed and it didnt really make sense so i swapped the first and last clip of 'you touch my baby i sware to god' and ' im jack timmons youve been sleeping with my brother and now you're gonna pay' and made one my establishing shot and the other my final clip so the trailer flowed better and the story line didnt feel so disjointed. My audience were also saying that i was givng to much information in my trailer away about the episode so i decided to get rid of a clip from one of th main character that was saying how she was left in a foster home by her best friend and thats why there were girls gangs forming in the city. Also because i was using a dubstep track the dialouge was being drowned so by using imovie i had to really  consentrate on the right balancwe between dialouge and sound track. I also didnt feel that my regional identity was being shown i wanted to make the trailer really young and fresh and to make it somthing young mancunions could really realte to with out trying to hard and putting them off so i made sure all the actors were using there natural manc accent and also by having my character wearing a jack wills hoodie and my other charcter wearing a ripped denim jacket to show class diversity. i also had my extras that were members of the rival gang wearing hoodies and having there headphone on display. i wanted my trailer to have a sense of realism so i made my natural as light as possible and also relaying that in my ancillary where i only used a brightness tool to lighten up some of the background so you could see each character indivdually. in my ancillary all of us are wearing dark clothing apart from one who is wearing white to show her inncocence. another thing that i had to change was tmy first draft og my front cover i wanted to give it a real professional look so i had to work reallyu hard with allingment of my subheadings and made sure all the writing framed the stars face.

Q3) notes from audience feedback on draft one of my trailer

this was all my feedback from the first draft of my trailer and everyting i had wanted my trailer to be based on (good edits and not giving away to much info) was all there and everyone said i was really good i then had to work really hard to make sure the bass droped in my trailer at the peek of the suspence. i also changed round the first and last clip in my trailer
to leave my trailer on a high and to make my sudience want to watch my trailer. to see final draft of trailer see blog post.

Q3 Retake Ancillary Billboard

my new billboard has a younger feel to it because i am using a brick wall which i did on photoshop my stars are at a medium close up. they are also all wearing black unlike in my first billboard. the grey in my first billboard drowns out the stars and also the photography isnt bright enough and you can clearly see all my stars faces. once again the way i edited my first billboard is messy because you can still see where i used the green screen. in my first billboard the two main charcaters (me and abbie) are to far away from each other so in the second billboard i put us right next to each other so you can instantly see who the leaders of the two gangs are. i also put a hashtag on my new billboard to create brand loyalty and made my strap line more relatable to my trailer because i feel that 'the gangs are back' gives to much away about the story line.

As part of my resit i had to go back and look at the conventions of soap magazine front covers. i wankted to stick with the classy magazine genre so i looked at this cover of TV and SAT weekend

this is my old cover the first problem is that the shot is not big enough so the emotion isnt strong enough. also the photo isnt very strong or bright and you can still see where i have used the green screen around the hair line. also not very conventional if the fact that Afflecks Palace is all on one line where as on the TV and SAT magazine 'David Tennant' is on two lines. there is also to much negagtive space where is have my strap line making me front cover looking empty if you look at the TV and SAT  magazine david's face is covering nearly all of the cover. another problem that makes my work look unrealisitc and unproffesional is that my text down the right hand side is jolted and isnt as straight as the text down the left hand side ro improve this instead of using my mouse to line the text up i used the arrows and i also added more features. also in the top right hand corner where i have my more channels feature i made it canted just like the TV and SAT cover. i also used photoshop to lighten the background so my text would stand out even more

 i changed alot in my new front cover i used the zoom tool of publisher to make sure the texts framed the stars face and also to make sure it was all in line so it was easy to read and to keep it clean. i also decided to use the same font in my front cover and billboard to create a brand identity. i also put the to main gang rivels on my front cover.

Q1) codes and conventions

Suggested ways to present each questions of your A2 coursework evaluation.

Q1) how did you USE, CHALLENGE or DEVELOPE codes and conventions of real media products

 

-          Compare your soap/music video to real examples within your sub/hybrid genre

-          Show a screenshot from a real soap alongside your version with colour coded annotations for similarities (using) differences (develop) and challenge (subversions)

-          Do this several times for your trailer to show the depth of your  research and understanding of the genre

-          Do the same for your poster and front cover

-          Break down of conventions and soap opera (every soap opera has... my sub genre uses and characters are like..)

-          To frame your answer and show the examiner what you have been studying show first all of the basic codes and conventions

The best way to present this question is either in power point, or a short film where you talk the examiner through all your points and give evidence

 

Q2) How effective is the combination of your main and ancillary texts?

-          How convincing are the links between all three of your products same characters and representations , storylines, character names , soap names and channel needs to be consistent

-          Front cover needs to do all this and match the sub genre of the TV mag you are making e.g. needs to closely follow the conventions of TV and Sat week

-          Poster needs to do all this and match the conventions of your channel and institution

 

The best way to present this is using prezi

If you don’t want to use prezi, you could make a mind map in publisher using JPEGS, screen shot and bullet points show the examiner your thought process and the consistencies between all three pieces

 

Q3)  what have you learnt about audience feedback

-          Feedback from drafts and how you acted on it to make more professional products

-          Copy and paste feedback so it’s all the same post and demonstrate how you used it and what you learnt

-          OR print screen and insert feedback into a blog post as JPEGS so the examiner can see the actual feedback. THEN  show what you have learnt

-          PowerPoint for ancillaries could work but it isn’t very creative the best way to present this in a blog or a interview

 

 

Q4) how did you use technologies in the research and planning construction and evaluations stages?

-          The best way to present this is first of all list the technologies that you used (GARAGE BAND ) and which part of the coursework you used the for (garage band , photo shop , key note , imovie , publisher blog , PowerPoint , YouTube , cameras , DSLR , green screen , slide share , twitter)

-          - for software and technologies you used in the mac suite do a series of screen recordings

For all other software technologies , print screens and power points that show your process will work.

This image wouldnt work because amy has a slight smile on her face and we wanted to portray some serious gang culture

we decided to experiment with a flash to see if it would edit better but we ended up getting a really horrible harsh glare of all our face which would look really unprofessional

the only real problem with this photo is that the characters in the shot dont really have mian parts so its only if you had watched the trailer lots of times that you would realise these characters are from afflecks palace and also the shot cuts alex's arm of

in this photo we are all at different hights which make this image really hard to photo shop you can also wee the lights at the top of the image and also we dont portray gang culture very well because we are all smiling.

Waterloo road trailer deconstruction

- this trailer is for an episode of waterloo road where gangs have started forming in rochdale
  - we know its aimed at gangs by the medium close up at 0:04 and 0:07 of the gang all stould in a line wearing balaclavas and hoodies that shot is where i took the inspiration for my billboard. and there is also a medium close up of a staffordshire bull terior which are dogs that are normally associated with gangs
  - i also like the music that the have used (dappy-rockstar) becuase its music for the generation of the audience that they are trying to target i did the same in my trailer by using skrillex
- i also like the big close up and the dialouge of 'its not voer this' which rounds off the trailer and leaves it at a climax and leaves the audience wanting more
  - i also did the same for my trailer by ending my trailer with ' you touch my baby and i sware to god' - unlike in my trailer the waterloo road trailer gives away all the story line in the first sentance (0:02) and i wanted my audience to figure out the story line for themselfs so i developes interest
- there are also alot of quick flash edits of codes normally associated with gangs culture e.g knuckle touches , barking dogs , hoodies and vilant behavior
- at the end of the trailer (0:12) there was a sense of releif where the dialouge of 'this school belongs to us' which i didnt want my trailer to have because it dosnt make the sudience want to tune in
  - finally instead of putting a title card at the end of my trailer i put it at the begining.

• title card 'this week on hollyoaks' sponserd by nikon. nikon know we live our lifes through our phones and photos.
• paul 'nothing you will ever do will push me away' est shot to mercedes. paul dominates the frame (at least 50%) Mercedes is small in squashed into a corner showing the dynamics of there relationship. the non verbal communication in this shot has a threataning sense to it due to the focus of the camera on pauls face and his eye contact is direct to Mercedes .Mercedes is looking down and her hair is covering her face.
• 'ive never seen a man so obsessed'. we have changed location we are now in a kitchen  but we are still following the same character (Mercedes) and story line in this shot Mercedes is in focus she is dominating the frame and jackie is in the background looking over her shoulder at Mercedes she is in a softer focus. we know that this scene is taking place at night due to the fact that there is no natural light.
• we then cut away and see a point of view shot from paul as Mercedes is talking to her ex boyfriend this is confirming the fact that he is obsessed with her.
• the music through out this trailer is like a heartbeat this is to make the audience feel tense and want to find out more
• 'the girl needs help' the shot then bridges to jackie crawling in an office showing that she shouldnt be here we know its an office due to the mis en scene (blindes , intray, cofee table ect)
• big close up of a hand routing through a draw and due to the next shot of jackie being her with a shocked face we know that she has found something (building suspence)
• extreme close up of Mercedes looking at her phone she has 5 missed calls of jackie showing that there is a sense of urgency
• the next shot again Paul is dominating the frame hes intencly staring at her and he is physically above her in the shot and because we cant see much of mercadees face she appears vunrable
• last shot 'its mercy shes in danger' from jackie as she is running through a hospital trailer ends.
• through editing you can show how people and places are always changing to keep the audience watching this is a trailer that focuses on one story line
