In the 1930s and 1940s they began on the radio before they
started to appear on our tv screens

They were traditioanally aimed at house wives and because
they didnt work through out the day.
Why were
they nick named soaps?
In the 1920s, radio was booming, and broadcasters wanted
to get advertisers in on the act to increase their station's profits. So radio
stations convinced businesses that sold household goods to sponsor radio shows.
